GORDON JAMES FOWLIE We are saddened to announce the passing of Gordon on January 30, 2004 at St. Boniface Hospital. Gordon leaves to mourn his wife Gwen (nee Wright) and son Frank (Joanna), Ottawa and grandson Chris Fowlie, Regina. He also leaves his sister-in-law Heather and her family; Joyce (Vaughn Ellis), Larry Watts, Wayne and Jeanette Watts, Heather (Dale Kinsella), Phyllis (Tom Williams), Brett Watts, Doug ( Kim) Watts; and sister-in-law Helen and godchild Bonnie (Bob Cross) and her family; Jenny and Marnie; his cousins, Elenor Bloom, Maui, Hawaii and Phyllis Hubbard, Carmel, California Gordon was born July 22, 1918. He was predeceased by his father, Frank Fowlie (1958) and mother, Daisy (nee Spence 1929) and stepmother Esther. Gordon attended Lord Roberts School and St. Johns (Ravenscourt) School 1920 to 1933 and Gordon Bell to 1936. He followed the footsteps of his father and grandfather, into the Hotel Industry. Gordon is a Past President of the Manitoba Hotel Association and a Director of the Canadian and American Hotel Associations. Gord retired from ownership of the St. James Hotel in 1975. He was a charter member and Past President of the Riverside Lions Club. Gord was active in Freemasonry, joining Meridian Lodge in 1967. He was a member of Cannought Chapter, Royal Arch Masons. He joined Khartum Temple in 1967 and played with the Drum and Bugle Corps., and was a Past Director the Royal Order of Jesters. He served as the Housing Chairman for the Shrine. Gordon served in the R.C.A.F. in the Second World War in India, Burma Theatre and received the Burma Star. He was an active member of the Niakwa Country Club, participating with the 4 Ws. Gordon also enjoyed his ginrummy games. Our sincere thanks to Dr. Murray Cameron, Dr. Hugh Smith, Dr. Vince Taraska and the Home Care staff. Following cremation, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 4 at 1:00 p.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway with Rev. Bill Oakley of St. Bartholomews Anglican Church officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Boniface Hospital Research Foundation, Room D1003-409 Tache Ave. Winnipeg MB R2H 9Z9, or the Shrine Transportation Fund, 1155 Wilkes Ave. Winnipeg MB R3P 1B9, would be appreciated.
