SARA WILLMS July 29, 1912 - January 29, 2004 Sara Willms passed away peacefully at the age of 91 at Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home where she had been a resident for the last six years. Sara was born in Schoenfeld (Ekaterinoslav) Russia on July 29, 1912 to her parents Franz and Anna Peters. At the age of 13 her parents, brothers and sister immigrated to Canada under the sponsorship of the Mennonite Central Committee. She arrived in Quebec City in October of 1925, and shortly thereafter she moved to Glenlea Manitoba. Sara moved to Winnipeg as a young woman, residing with the family who employed her as household help. Fond memories of this time include summers at the Lake of the Woods, canoeing and swimming. On May 30, 1942 she married Rudolf John Willms, who had immigrated to Rosthern Saskatchewan with his father from Halbstadt Russia in September of 1924. Sara and Rudy resided in North/East Kildonan enjoying their family, home, gardening, and travels and in later years fishing. Sara was predeceased by her husband Rudy, her daughter Leona, granddaughter Kirsten Siemens, her brothers, Gerhard, Franz and Henry Peters, and her sister Njuta Janzen. Sara is survived by her daughter Barbara Siemens and son Eric and Sharni Willms, grandchildren Shannon & Kenton Friesen, Lindsey and Lisa Willms, and great grandchildren Emma and Kaya Friesen, and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the staff and management of Bethania who provided outstanding care and support for Sara during her residence. A memorial service will be held at the North Kildonan Mennonite Church, 1131 Roch Avenue at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 3 with viewing prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Saras name to Bethania Mennonite Personal Care Home, 1045 Concordia Ave., R2K 3S7.
