Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryEMMIE REIMER Peacefully, at the St. Boniface Hospital on January 31, 2004, Emmie Reimer (nee Groening) passed away and was received into the arms of her faithful Lord. Emmie was born to Abram and Maria (Martens) Groening on March 31, 1915 on a farm in southern Manitoba near Lowe Farm. She had wonderful memories of her childhood growing up with seven sisters and four brothers. Although life on the farm was hard for her parents and finances a constant struggle, she described her childhood as sheltered. She did not feel poor growing up since most of her relatives and neighbours were in similar circumstances. Even though there was much work for the children to do on the farm, there was also time to play when the jobs were all done. Emmie had a strong personal faith and in her later years she looked forward to going to be with her Lord. She was known for her sense of humour which she carried with her to the end. Emmie was a very creative person, specializing in making useful items out of scrap materials. She was also a highly accomplished seamstress, having worked at this trade for many years before she was married. In the early years of her marriage, she used this talent to assist with family finances by making most of her own and her childrens clothes as well as sewing for others. In later life she enjoyed the challenge of modifying almost every item of clothing she purchased to suit her personal taste. When her grandchildren were young she loved to sew for them and new pyjamas from Gramma became part of the Reimer Christmas tradition. Emmie was married for 45 years to Alexander (Al) Reimer and she missed him very much after he passed away in 1996. She will be lovingly remembered by her sons, Bob, Wayne (Rhona), Gil (Shirley) and daughter-in-law Colleen; six grandchildren, Jeffrey, Noah, Ezra, Eliza, Scott and Clark. She is survived by sisters, Ellen (Neil), Tillie (Pete), Elvera; brothers-in-law, Alfred, Ab (Alice), Andrew (Anne) sisters-in-law, Susie, Tina, Regina, Dorothea, Marianne and Florence. Emmie was predeceased by siblings, Edward, Randall, Walter, Liddy, Carrie, Rosie, Art, Nora; brothers-in-law, Norman, Herman, Walter, John; sisters-in-law, Maria, Lydia and grandson Phillip. "For me, to live is Christ and to die is gain." (Phillipians 1:21) Many thanks to the staff at The Convalescent Home of Winnipeg for the excellent care and support they provided to Mom over the last year. Thanks also to the staff on 7 South at the St. Boniface Hospital for looking after her so well in her last days.
