ARTHUR SIEGFRIED APPLER 1915 - 2004 It is with the deepest sorrow that we announce the passing of a wonderful gentleman, Father and Grandfather. Arthur Appler died Sunday, February 1, 2004 at the age of 88 years. His hospitality, generosity, kindness and humour will be forever remembered. He was born September 1, 1915 in Winnipeg, and resided there for 78 years. He spent six years living in Montreal during the Second World War and the last four years with his daughters in Calgary. He was a hardworking, successful businessman whose compassion and understanding helped many of his customers. He retired at 67 and enjoyed winters in Hawaii, and his many world travels. He was predeceased by his wife (Catharine) Bette Appler (nee Vaughan) in 1986; his only son Vaughan Kevin Appler in 1946; his brothers, Ben and Bill, and his sister Anne. He leaves to mourn his daughters, Penny Meinzer and her husband Adolf, Catherine Appler and her husband Craig Farkas; his only granddaughter Alexis Meinzer-Giles, all of Calgary as well as his sisters, Dorothy Ackland, age 92, of Hamilton and Barbara (Ella) Fowler, age 86, of Winnipeg; his brother Rudy Appler, age 90, also of Winnipeg. He will be interred in Winnipeg with his wife Bette. There will be a memorial service at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. on Thursday February 5 at 3:00 p.m., with a reception to follow. Flowers are gratefully declined. However, donations may be made in his name to either the Canadian Cancer Society at Suite 200, 215 - 12 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB, T2G 1A2 or the Alzheimers Society of Calgary at Suite 201, 222 - 58 Street S.W., Calgary, AB, T2H 2S8.
