MILDRED MARY (LIDDIARD) BROPHY Born August 15, 1912, Died January 29, 2004 Our beloved mother, Mildred Brophy, passed away peacefully on January 29, 2004. Born August 15, 1912 to Ethel and Charles Liddiard of Winnipeg, Mildred. was predeceased by her brothers, Charles Cuthbert (Bert) and Wilfred; and sister Joy Driscoll; her infant daughter Monica; and her husband James. She leaves to mourn her passing but cherish her memory, daughters, Patricia Joyce (Larry) Travis of Crystal Lake, IL, Barbara Joan (William) Sifferle of Portland, OR, Valerie Ann (Allan) Bowman of Edmonton, AB; son Charles Edmond (Sylvia) Brophy of Calgary; brothers, Bernard (Barbara) and Aubrey (Doreen) Liddiard; sister-in-law Christine Berg of Winnipeg; 10 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. Raised in Winnipeg, Mildred married James Brophy in 1936. Although Jims employment with the Canadian National Railways took them to New Westminster, BC, Edmonton, Alberta, Saskatoon, SK and Scarborough, ON, Winnipeg was home base, and when they retired in 1972 it was a launching point for their travels and family visits and trips to their cottage at Victoria Beach. After Jims death in 1993, Mildred moved to Portland, to live with her daughter and son-in-law, Joan and Bill. A person of deep faith, Mildred was an active member of her parish, and twice president of her local Catholic Womens League. She was an avid canoeist in her early years. Her hobbies included sewing, woodworking, gardening, and various needle arts before her sight failed in recent years. Her cheerful optimism, outgoing personality, generosity, and beaming smile were held dear by her many friends and will be long remembered by those who survive her. Though she has gone to her reward, and will be greatly missed, she will always remain in our hearts, and we are grateful for the life she led and the life she radiated to others. Funeral mass will be offered at St. Francis of Assissi Parish in Portland, February 7, 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, friends who so wish may make a donation to the charity of their choice. Her ashes will be interred at the St. Vital parish cemetery in Winnipeg. The family wish to thank the Providence St. Vincent Hospice Team for their caring support in Mildreds last days.
