FREDERICK FISHER It has been our greatest gift to have loved and been loved by Fred, who with quiet dignity passed away on Tuesday, February 3, 2004 at St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 89 years. He will be held forever in the hearts of his loving wife of 56 years, Marjorie (Fish) his son David; daughter-in-law Kathy; granddaughter Laura of Winnipeg and his daughter Carole (Aylard) son-in-law Marty and grandsons, Andrew and Evan of Dartmouth, NS. Fred will also be lovingly remembered and greatly missed by his sister-in-law Irene Fisher (Edmonton) nephews, Stan (Irene) and Brian (Joyce) and their families; his brother-in-law George and Jeanette Fish (Kelowna) nephews, Derek (Dianne) and Jim (Nancy) and their families, cousins and many friends in Canada and the U.S.A. He was predeceased by his parents, Reginald and Jennie Fisher and brother Robert. Born in Winnipeg, Fred began work with the CNR at the age of 16, enjoying 45 years with the railroad. Beginning in Calgary, he worked in Moose Jaw, Saskatoon, Regina, Edmonton and Winnipeg, retiring in 1975 as District Manager, Freight Sales and Service. Fred loved the railroad and enjoyed a continued friendship with his fellow CNR retirees at their regular luncheons. Enjoying his twenty-eight years of retirement, Fred and Marj traveled extensively and volunteered for more than 20 years with Meals on Wheels and more recently with Winnipeg Harvest at St. Bartholomews Anglican Church where he and Marj have been active members since 1960. Above all, Freds greatest passion was his family. Standing tall, he dwarfed us physically but raised us to his height with the gifts of joy, laughter, integrity, honour, respect and the best of all, his love. A celebration of Freds life will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 7 at St. Bartholomews Anglican Church, 881 Autumnwood Dr. The family wishes to extend their sincerest thanks to the nurses, orderlies, and Pastoral Care staff at the St. Boniface General Hospital who walked beside us during this last journey with Dad. Their loving care and compassion to Fred and his family will be remembered with heartfelt gratitude. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either St. Bartholomews Memorial Fund or to St. Boniface General Hospital Research Foundation, 409 Tache Ave., Winnipeg, R2H 9Z9.
