EMMA GERTRUDE McKINNON (nee STEPHENSON) 1911 - 2004 Peacefully at Tuxedo Villa Personal Care Home, Emma passed away on January 29, 2004 with her loving niece Susan by her side. Left to cherish Emmas memory are her sisters, Ida, Olga and Bernice (Pinkie) and her brother Fred; and sister-in-law Doreen; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Alex; her sister Florence; her brothers, Harry, Johnny and Gordon; and her parents, Emma and Harry Stephenson. Emma was born March 11, 1911 in Winnipeg. She graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate in 1928 and then attended Normal School. During this time she was an avid tennis player at Sargent Park where she met the love of her life, Alex McKinnon. Up to their marriage in September of 1939, Emma worked at Eatons. She and Alex resided on The Glen in St. Vital, the scene of many a spirited gathering of both family and friends. Emma lived up to her motto that if you dont have a good time, its your own fault. Emma loved life, she was a true lover of all things in nature and enjoyed the outdoors. She and Alex spent many happy hours in their yard on the banks of the Seine River. After Alex passed away, Emma drew strength from her family. She spent many happy hours in their company, playing cards, visiting her shut-in friends, travelling (especially with her other "Two Amigos"), and just generally being the life of the party. Emma is fondly remembered by family, friends, and neighbours as a lively and caring person. She was a joy to everyone who knew her. In accordance with Emmas wishes there will be no service. Also in accordance with her wishes, her body has been donated to the University of Manitoba, Department of Anatomy. In her own words, she finally made it to university. A celebration of her life will take place at a later date. Special thanks to the staff of the Rosewood Village and Tuxedo Villa for the care and compassion they provided. As an expression of sympathy, in lieu of flowers, donations in Emmas memory may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2, or to a charity of your choice.
