JOHN BEECH John William Beech age 49 of Stonewall, Manitoba passed away in hospital Wednesday, February 4, 2004, after a lengthy battle with cancer, with his wife at his side. Born in Montreal, Quebec moved to Thunder Bay, ON in 1962. John attended Lakeview High school and later graduated from the Avionics Technology program at Confederation College in Thunder Bay, ON after which he worked at Bills Business Machines in Thunder Bay. He obtained his pilots license and earned his ATR and flew charters into Northwestern Ontario before joining Transport Canada in 1982. With Transport Canada he was dispatched to work in Thompson, MB and later to Churchill, MB where he worked as a Nav Aids Technologist. While living in the the north, John was active in his community and assisted with local projects, utilizing his training and hobbies to the benefit of the community. His last posting was at the Winnipeg Airport where he made Stonewall, a community outside Winnipeg, his home. John became an active member of the local Kinsmen Club in Stonewall and served in many capacities. This past summer John received Nav Canadas "National Chairmans Award for Operation Efficiency". John is survived and will be sadly missed by his wife Simone of Stonewall, his three daughters, Sarah (Dunlop), Laura, and Catherine and his son Daniel all of Winnipeg, his stepson Sean (Wiebe) of Stonewall and two grandsons, Westley (Dunlop), age four and Aiden (Dunlop), 16 months both of Winnipeg. He is also survived by his parents, Reg and Dorothy Beech of Thunder Bay; sister Cathy Hunt her husband Tom; and nephews, Tyler and Lindsey Hunt all of Thunder Bay; sister-in-law Shannon (Cadden) and her two children, Christian and Alyssa (Towle) of Winnipeg. Many thanks to the staff at Stonewall Hospital, paramedics and home care. Thanks to Winnipeg CancerCare for all their assistance. Funeral services will be held on Monday, February 9, where family and friends will gather at MacKenzie Funeral Chapel, Stonewall at 4:00 p.m. Interment will follow privately at Glen Eden Cemetery at at later time. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Cancer Society or Stonewall Palliative care. MacKenzie Funeral Home, Stonewall in care of arrangements.
