FRED LACOVETSKY April 5, 1918 - January 30, 2004 With great sadness we announce the passing of our husband, father, zaida, and great-zaida. He was a gentle, loving, caring, generous, and brave man. Fred is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Doris; his children, Faigie (Martin), Alan (Joanne), Laaurie; son-in-law, Jack Lazareck; grandchildren, Alana (Shane), Sara, Ryn, Daniel, Alex and great-granddaughter Sydney; his sisters, Tillie Frankel, Shirley Pawlow; brothers, Arnie Lacovetsky and Sheppy Lacoff. He was predeceased by parents, Alec and Lizzie Lacovetsky and brother Sam Lacoff. In 1940, he enlisted in the Army and served overseas for 4 years. After the war, Fred and his brother-in-law, Jack Wolodarsky, owned and operated Standard Sheet Metal and Roofing Co. for 54 years. He retired due to illness at the age of 84. His in-laws, the Wolodarsky family, played a very significant part of his life. He was an active volunteer at the Hebrew Sick Benefit Association bingo for 45 years. He loved to spend time with his extended Gimli trailer park family, his Legion friends, and cribbage club. His family was the highlight of his life. Nothing was too much when it came to his children and grandchildren. He was the best husband, father and zaida we could have hoped for. He worked hard to support his family, and we always knew we were loved. We will miss him more than words can say. Our thanks to the pallbearers, Martin Levitt, Ryan Lacovetsky, Bill Wolodarsky, Shane Devlin, Jack Lazareck, and Mayer Pawlow. Honorary pallbearers were Harry Rosenbaum, Jack Wolodarsky, Dave Chochinov, and Larry Usiskin. Our sincere thanks to the St. Boniface Palliative Care Unit. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation may do so to the Jewish Child and Family Service, or the St. Boniface Palliative Care Foundation.
