Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERNEST SIMARD It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Ernest "Ernie" Simard on February 6, 2004 at Riverview Health Centre. Ernest was born in La Broquerie, MB on September 25, 1912, the eldest of nine children born to Henri and Martine Simard. After his schooling, he went to work for his uncle in Vassar, MB. There he met and married Laudina Huppe on October 7, 1937. Ernest and Laudina moved to Winnipeg in the early 1940s. Ernest worked a number of jobs at first, which included employment with Arctic Ice and CN. He eventually became employed with the City of St. Boniface Public Works until his retirement in 1977. Following his retirement, Ernest and Laudina spent 25 years in Lorette, and in 1999 returned to Winnipeg. A man of "few words", Ernest was a hard and reliable worker, who was good at any odd job that needed to get done. He will be fondly remembered by his family for the good man that he was. Ernest is lovingly survived by his wife Laudina and their five children, Denis (Kathleen), Ronald (Donna), Marcel (Jeannette), Claudette (Andre Gagnon) and David (Pat) his daughter-in-law Darlene; 12 grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, his two sisters, Louise and Margarite. Numerous nieces and nephews also cherish his memory. He was predeceased by his son Gerald "Gerry", three brothers and three sisters. In accordance with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, February 11 at 1:00 p.m. at P. Coutu Funeral Chapel, 156 Marion St. Interment will follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens. The family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors and staff at Riverview Health Centre for the excellent care given to him. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ernests memory to the Palliative Care Ward at Riverview Health Centre, 1 Morley Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3L 2P4. P. Coutu & Co.
