ALIDA TAILLIEU (CLAEYS)

Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryALIDA TAILLIEU (nee CLAEYS) Alida Taillieu (nee Claeys) passed away suddenly on February 8, 2004 while on vacation with her daughter and son-in-law in McAllen, TX. Left to cherish her memory are her children, Marilyn Christianson (Lorne), Wilfred (Mavis) and Roger (Georgia) and former husband Marcel Taillieu. "Nana" will be sadly missed by her grandchildren, Bob Reidy (Day), Alison Reidy, Heidi Taillieu, Graeme and Tyler Hall, and Lorna and Loree Christianson. Also left to mourn are her sisters, Elsie Gorewich (Roy), Mary Duval, Jeannette Shott (Ralph) sisters-in-law, Grace Claeys, Diane Claeys and Bernice Taillieu; brother-in-law Wilfred Degraves (Diane) as well as many nieces, nephews; and many friends, including special friend and neighbour Heidrun LaFarge. Alida was predeceased by her parents, Remi and Irma; brothers, Robert, Jules, Remi; and grandson Garth Taillieu. Alida was born November 26, 1920 in Transcona where she lived, attended school and worked on the family dairy farm. She married Marcel in 1943 and moved to Headingley where she was devoted to raising her family. She worked side by side with Marcel on their dairy farm and was instrumental in the founding and operation of Taillieu Construction. Alida and Marcel were members of the Manitoba Heavy Construction Association where she always made sure new members were welcome and included. She was described by many as a grand lady. In her later years (which she jokingly referred to as the rusty years rather than the golden years), she lived in Charleswood enjoying her home, needlepoint, garden, and many friends. She loved playing cards and enjoyed many hour of bridge and cribbage. Alida was a member of St. Charles Catholic Church and sang in the choir for many years. Alida had natural grace, humour, intelligence and was known for her warm heart and generosity. She was remarkable intuitive and responsive and had a genuine interest in people. She leaves a legacy of wonderful memories and life lessons to her children and grandchildren. Her spirit lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Viewing will be held from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 12 at St. Charles Catholic Church. A celebration of Alidas life will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, February 13 at St. Charles Catholic Church, 320 St. Charles St. Pallbearers are Edmund Taillieu, Larry Duval, Brian Duval, Gordon Cox, Al Hardy and Bob Reidy. In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make a donation in Alidas memory to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
