Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryROBERTA FAHRNER Roberta Fahrner (MacLennan) passed away on February 10, 2004 at Tuxedo Villa Extendicare at the age of 90 years. Roberta was born on September 26, 1913 and raised on the family farm in Gladstone. She graduated from the Provincial Normal School in 1934 and taught at the one-room school of Tarbolton School (near Rivers) for three years. She married Alwyn Fahrner in 1937, first settling in St. Vital, then moving to Charleswood in 1948 where they raised their family and were involved in the community, the Charleswood United Church and the Charleswood Curling Club. Roberta and her husband were well known in curling circles and willingly donated their time for the betterment of the club. The highlight of her curling career came playing third for Kay Hieberts Charleswood Rink, representing Manitoba in the Canadian "Diamond D" Ladies Curling Championships in 1962. She served as President of the club, becoming an Honorary Life Member in 1987. A lover of gardening, flowers were her pride, which she willingly shared. Summers were spent at their Wallace Lake cottage until a forest fire destroyed most of the area in 1987. Roberta was predeceased by her husband Alwyn in 2001; brothers, Allen, Kenneth, Clarence and Arthur. She is also lovingly remembered by her son Don (Claudia) of Heidelberg, Germany; daughter Gail (Joe) Hawkins of Rohnert Park, CA; five grandchildren, cousins, nieces and nephews, including special niece Frances Fahner. Roberta is also survived by her sister Victorine Crawley of The Pas and sister-in-law Jean Fahner of Gladstone. The family extends special thanks and appreciation to Home Care and to the devoted staff of Tuxedo Villa for the many years of loving care and respectful understanding of both our parents. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Roberta may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or a charity of your choice. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 14 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Interment and reception will follow.
