Date of Passing: Feb 09, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA GROSHAK (nee SWIDINSKY) It is with deep sadness that the family announces the unexpected passing of Olga Groshak on February 9, 2004 at Seven Oaks Hospital. Olga leaves to cherish her memory her husband of 53 years, Alex; four sons, Michael (Yvonne), Stan (Anita), Steve (Kim), Robert (Sue) four sisters, Irene (Rev. Michael), Stefanie, Marion (Ken), Natalie (Albert) three brothers, Melfort (Stella), Robert (Oksana), Donald; five grandchildren, Susan (Darryl), Jocelyn, Laura, Alex, Alysha; two great-grandchildren, Jessica and Alexis and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her father Joseph and her mother Helen; her brothers, Roman and John. Olga was born in Borschiv, Ukraine in 1925. In 1928 her family came to Canada and settled in the Rossburn area to a new life in a land that was still, in many ways, quite inhospitable. It was in Winnipeg however that she and her husband made their home. Olga was the oldest of 10 siblings and she had a profound influence on the moral and intellectual development of her siblings. She was generous, optimistic, supportive and philosophical. She was a strong, determined and independent individual. Her sense of humour was gentle and comforting and tended to take the edge off lifes disappointments. She was someone who loved to read, enjoyed nature and tending her garden. You could always find her digging in her flower garden, moving plants from one area to another. Over the years she diligently supported her husband in the family recording business. Olga was especially happy with her own Ethnic Records and Gift store that she managed for 18 years. Above all else she devoted her life to her family and was a member of St. Josephs Catholic Church on Jefferson. She gave her husband and four sons a secure and loving home, touched their life and made it better. She will be sadly missed by all who knew her. In accordance with Olgas wishes, cremation has taken place. A private family service took place on February 13, with Rev. Michael Samsin and Deacon Ken Gaber officiating. The family would like to thank the Paramedics and emergency staff at Seven Hospital for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or a charity of ones choice. "Goodbye my family, my life has passed. I loved you all to the very last, weep not for me but courage take, always continue to love each other, for my sake, for those you love dont go away. They walk beside you every day."
