JOSEPHINE KOSOWAN On February 9, 2004, after a long and courageous battle, Josephine Kosowan (nee Markiewicz), aged 88, succumbed to her illness and joined the Lord. Josephine will be sadly missed by her loving son Ted, as well as many, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her husband of 55 years John Kosowan in 2001; her mother Caroline (1968) her father Joseph (1939) sisters, Ursula and Theophilia; and brothers, Frank and Stanley. Josephine was born in Winnipeg on December 14, 1915. She went to school in North Winnipeg and then attended business college. She worked many years for several of Winnipegs leading law firms. Strong willed and determined in her 50s she returned to school, studying French at St. Boniface College and obtaining her Teaching Certificate from the University of Manitoba. She taught elementary school first in the St. Boniface School Division and later at Holy Ghost School until her eventual retirement. Josephine was a lifetime member of Holy Ghost Church. Josephine was a feisty, fun-loving, energetic, outgoing, generous and caring person. She loved to sew and was an accomplished crochet and needlepoint artist. She truly had a "green thumb" and loved the challenge of growing a beautiful African Violet from the tiniest leaf or stem. Sunday morning breakfasts after mass for the entire family and friends were a popular regular occurrence. She was an animal lover, especially her cats, which kept her company over the years. The family wishes to express their profound and sincere gratitude to the nurses and medical staff 5th floor Unit 4 of Seven Oaks Hospital for their wonderful and compassionate care of Josephine these past few months. You are true Professionals. As well, the family would like to thank the staff of Fred Douglas Lodge for their kind and compassionate care these past few years. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, February 14 at 10:00 a.m. with viewing starting at 9:30 a.m. at Holy Ghost Roman Catholic Church, 341 Selkirk Ave. with Rev. Antoni Deguitis, O.M.I. officiating. Interment will follow at Holy Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Josephines memory to St. Pauls High School, Bursary Fund, Winnipeg Humane Society, DArcys A.R.C. Animal Rescue, or a charity of ones choice.
