GIELA SHEPS (nee DINER) Peacefully, on February 9 at Victoria Hospital, surrounded by family, in her 87th year. Predeceased by her husband, Jack; her parents, Morris and Sarah Diner; her sister, Harriet Knazan and brothers, Ervin, Simon and Charles Diner. Survived by her children, Cheryl and David Singer, Sam and Joan Sheps, Michael Sheps, Ruth Sheps and Maureen and Richard Jacobs; grandchildren, Lisa Singer and Mark Blumberg, Matthew and Jeffrey Singer, Sarah, Daniel and Jason Sheps, Adam, Joel and Tobin Sheps, and Lee, Jaclyn and Amy Jacobs and great-grandsons, Ethan and Theo Blumberg. Giela was the youngest of five children. Her parents died while she was in her teens. She was exceptionally close to her sister Harriet (Cissie) her nephew, Maurice and her brothers, Ervin (Tubby), Simon (Buster) and Charles, who all lived in the family home on Machray. She was educated at Luxton Elementary and St. Johns Tech in Winnipeg and prior to her marriage had a brief career as a singer. She married Jack in 1943 and raised their four children in their home on McAdam. She loved to entertain and her home was always filled with friends and relatives and her childrens friends. After her husbands death, she worked and excelled in retail sales at The Mannequin on Osborne. Her greatest joys in life were her family, summers at Winnipeg Beach and travelling with her husband. She was a past-president of the Lillian Freiman Chapter of Hadassah-Wizo. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, February 11 at Shaarey Zedek Synagogue with interment at Rosh Pina Memorial Park. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were her sons-in-law, David Singer and Richard Jacobs. In lieu of flowers, donations to Canadian Friends of Hebrew University or Jewish Foundation of Manitoba - Special Needs Fund would be gratefully appreciated.
