HILDA THIESSEN 1925-2004 Hilda Thiessen (nee Hiebert) passed away peacefully on February 9, 2004 at the Riverview Health Centre. Hilda was predeceased in 1994 by her husband of 46 years, Abram. She leaves to mourn her passing her son Robert of Calgary; daughter Patricia Burrows (Jay Ostema) of Boston; sons, Douglas (Sheila) of Lockport, Patrick (Penny) of Vancouver, and Harold (Mary-Jo) of Toronto; as well as grandchildren, Christopher (Vicki), Jason, Rebecca, Angela, Richard, Thomas and Andrew; and great-grandsons, Jeremy and Matthew. Hilda was born in the Altona area in 1925, residing on the family farm until moving to Altona to operate a hairdressing shop. She married Abe in 1947. After beginning their family they moved to Portage la Prairie in 1953, where they stayed until 1961. They then moved to Winnipeg where she worked as a homemaker, at the Fort Garry Hotel, and at the Eatons Foodateria as a cashier until her retirement. Hilda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother, an excellent cook and an avid gardener and fisherman. After retirement she rediscovered curling, and took up golf, bowling and bridge, making many new and cherished friends in the process. The family wishes to thank the staff on 3 East of the Riverview Health Centre for their compassionate and professional care during her last days. We would also like to thank Moms niece, Janet Wiebe, for being a caring friend during her illness. Mom formed a special bond with Janet and appreciated her help. In lieu of flowers, a donation can be made to the palliative care unit at the Riverview Health Centre or to the charity of choice. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Winnipeg, MB. Reception and interment to follow.
