STEWART HINDS Peacefully, on Thursday, February 5, 2004 at the Lions Prairie Manor, Stewart Hinds, of Portage la Prairie, widower of the late Inez Hinds, passed away at the age of 79 years. Stewart was born on April 8, 1924, son of Katherine and Allan Hinds at Portage la Prairie. He was raised on the family farm in the Macdonald area and received his education in West Oakland School District. On October 20, 1945 he married Inez Hemmingson and together they farmed in the McDonald District until 1981, when he married Betty Bradley and moved to Winnipeg, MB. He returned home to Portage in 2001. Stewart was a strong community supporter and served on several boards in the area, such as the Portage Co-op, Manitoba Pool, Co-op Implements and The Portage Hospital Board, where he served as Chairman of the Board for a time. He curled many years in Macdonald, Oakland and Portage. Predeceased by his wife Inez in 1979; Betty in 2000; his brother William; sister Dorothy Caton, he leaves to mourn his passing three daughters, Susan MacDonald (John McOrmond) of Courtney, BC, Laurie (Jim) Pierce of Cold Lake, AB, Kristin (Rick) Springer of Winnipeg, MB; his grandchildren, Julie (Todd) Saretsky, Michael (Lindsay) Deagnon, Holly (Colin) Bernier and great-grandchildren, Brooklyn and Alexis, Austin and Mackenzie. Also surviving are his sisters-in-law, Elvie Paulsen and Etta Hemmingson, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral service was held in the Chapel of the Omega Funeral Home, Portage la Prairie, on Tuesday, February 10 at 2:30 p.m. Stewarts daughters, Susan MacDonald, Laurie Pierce and Kristin Springer gave the eulogies. Tim Deagnon played the guitar and sang a duet with Brent Gilbert called "The Farmers Song". Musical selections were "Church in the Wildwood", "In The Garden" and "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" with Coralie Arundell presiding at the organ. Interment followed in the family plot at Hillside Cemetery. Should friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Lions Prairie Manor or Sunset Palliative Care. As a closing note to this obitbulkloaduary, the family has this to say, "When your loved one has Dementia, please remember, no matter what your pain, they need your love and patience, for deep inside, their pain is trapped".
