HENRY UNRUH Peacefully, with his family by his side, at the Grace Hospital on February 11, 2004, Hank passed away at the age of 74. He leaves to mourn his wife of 47 years, Frieda; two daughters, Donna (Kris) Janovcik and Risa (Kurt) Derksen; six grandchildren, Tatiana and Alexandra Janovcik and Haley, Kurtis, Zachary and Gabriella Derksen. Two brothers, Walter (Helen), Hugo (Carol) and two sisters, Elly (Peter) Kathler and Magdalene (Peter) Martens; as well as three brothers-in-law and two sisters-in-law. He was predeceased by his parents. Hank was born on the family farm in Ste. Elizabeth and spent his childhood there. He attended high school in Springstein and at the Mennonite Collegiate Institute in Gretna. After a few years in the teaching profession, he switched careers to credit and finance management. He was an avid and competitive sportsman; baseball and curling became his sports of choice. He was chosen All-Star pitcher twice in the Mercantile Fastball league and competed in several provincial Seniors and Masters curling competitions. He thoroughly enjoyed his volunteer participation as V.I.P. driver for the Pan Am Games and the 2003 World Curling event. His love of gardening was evident in his meticulously groomed yard. He was a member of First Mennonite Church for 47 years and was elected to various committees, devoting many years to the position of head usher. The funeral service will be held at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave. on Monday, February 16 at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Kathy Koop officiating. Viewing will be held at Klassen Funeral Chapel, 1897 Henderson Hwy. on Sunday, February 15 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 9Z9 or First Mennonite Church Memorial Fund, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0M9.
