KATHARINA KLASSEN Peacefully, with her family around her, Katharina Klassen passed away on February 10, 2004. The family would like to express its appreciation for the loving care Mom received at Bethania for the past year. Katharina was born on December 9, 1916 in Rosenthal, Ukraine, to Gerhard and Maria Petkau. On November 20, 1937 Katharina married Abram Dyck. After a few happy and peaceful years, their lives were thrown into turmoil by the Second World War. In 1943 they fled the Ukraine and were settled as refugees in Neustadt, Oberschlesien. Sadly, they were separated here, with Abram and children Hermann and Anna being sent to Siberia, and Katharina with daughter Margaret eventually immigrating to Paraguay. In 1957 Katharina and Margaret immigrated to Canada, where life became somewhat easier. In 1966, daughter Anna was allowed to leave the Soviet Union and join her mother and sister in Canada. On March 27, 1976, Katharina married Rev. Jacob H. Klassen, who died August 21, 1977. For the remainder of her life, Katharina devoted herself to her children, grandchildren and her hobby, embroidery. Katharina leaves to mourn, Hermann and Maria Dyck, Anna Dyck and Margaret and Jake Pankratz; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren and the Klassen children and their families. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 13 at 10:30 a.m. at Sargent Ave. Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield St. north at Sargent, with interment in Springstein. Viewing Thursday, 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Klassen Funeral Chapel. KLASSEN Funeral Chapel 1897 Henderson - North of McIvor - 338-0331
