Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryKENNETH HAWKINS Surrounded by his family, Ken Hawkins, age 78, passed away on February 13, 2004. Ken was born in Walton-On-The-Hill, England on February 25, 1925. After serving with the Friends Ambulance Unit during the War he embarked on a long nursing career. Ken married his wife, Rita on January 15, 1949. In 1962 he immigrated with his young family to Canada. He spent four years nursing at the Assiniboine Hospital in Brandon before moving north to serve as Director of Nursing at the Fort Churchill General Hospital. Ken completed his nursing career as Night Supervisor at The Deer Lodge Centre from 1974 to 1988. Ken was known for his "Old-School" style of nursing and gained the respect of many colleagues and patients. Throughout his life, Ken enjoyed cooking, gardening and reading mysteries, all of which he managed to continue even as his vision diminished. Ken will be missed and remembered by his wife Rita and children, Tim (Jan), Nicci (Frank) De Ruyck, and Michael; Grandchildren, Danielle, Edward, Ken, Alice, Ashley, Justin, Dana and Ken; sister Doris (Eardley) Bourne and nephews, Kevin and Alan Bourne in England. The family would like to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital Emergency and 5B Wards as well as Doctor E. Giesbrecht. Following cremation a memorial service will be held Wednesday, February 18 at 2:30 p.m. in the Thomson Funeral Chapel, 669 Broadway.
