GREGORY BERESTIANSKY November 29, 1978 - February 14, 2004 A Valiant Heart Stopped Beating With profound sadness, we announce the peaceful passing of our dear son and brother Gregory. Surrounded by his family, he ended his long struggle against leukemia and graft versus host disease. He will be forever loved and remembered by his parents, Chris and John; his oldest sister Leona (Eugene) his twin brother Mark; his youngest sister Julia; and his precious niece and goddaughter Meira. Also mourning his loss are his Babcia Gean Bak, Jaju Joseph Bak, Gigi Walter Berestiansky, Uncle Bohdan (Heather) and the Hodyr and Coelho families. He was predeceased by his adored Uncle Frank Bak; his Baba Mary Berestiansky; and his great-grandparents, Ann and John Wasylechko. He will be deeply missed by family and friends. The family would like to thank the staff of CancerCare, D6, Health Sciences MICU, Victoria General Hospital, the emergency response teams and the many talented care givers who have supported Greg along the way. Greg grew up in Fort Richmond and graduated from Fort Richmond Collegiate. He had completed his first year of science at the University of Manitoba when he was diagnosed and began his difficult struggle. He pursued his studies when he was able and would have completed his degree had he been granted more time. Greg had a keen wit, unrivaled one-lined zingers and a renowned sense of humour. He had an incredible laugh that touched your soul. He was highly intelligent, excelling in many areas. He was a voracious reader, and was especially known for his endless curiosity. He avidly pursued his passion for computers, history and anything military. He played rugby and football with the Fort Garry Lions. He was a true Renaissance Man. Above all, Greg cherished and loved his family. He was a true and constant friend to many. They in turn stood steadfastly by him throughout his illness. He will be forever remembered by all for his compassion, wisdom and immeasurable strength. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Wednesday, February 18 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrews Ukrainian Catholic Church, 160 Euclid Ave. at Maple Street. Interment will follow at All Saints Cemetery. Reception will follow interment, back at the church auditorium. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Gregs memory to CancerCare Manitoba (Bone Marrow Transplant) Research, 1160-675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9.
