HAZEL ALLEN (nee MUNRO) Hazel Allen passed away peacefully at Fred Douglas Lodge on Monday, February 16, 2004 in her 96th year. She was predeceased by her parents, loving husband Bert and ten brothers and sisters. She will be remembered by her last surviving sister, Jennie Woods (Brandon, MB) her two daughters, Heather (Bryan) and Judy (Terry) grandchildren, Rayna (Greg), Tara (Dave), Teresa and Derek; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Brenden and Erika; and numerous nieces and nephews. Born and raised in Warren, she moved to the farm in Grosse Isle when she married Bert and they worked hand in hand for all their years together. After Mom and Dad retired from farming, they travelled to various parts of Europe, USA and Canada. She loved watching sports, particularly baseball and football. Mom was active in the Womens Institute and loved to knit and crochet. Mom was very active in her church groups throughout the years. For many years, Mom was at the front of St. Michael Anglican Church (Grosse Isle) playing the organ. We can remember the stories about all the knitting that was done during the war years for the soldiers overseas. The quilting bees for the Red Cross blankets were also stories that were passed down to us. She continued with her knitting and crocheting and was an avid reader until she was no longer able due to losing her eyesight. Mom was a fighter and this was evident in her survival over a serious heart attack 30 years ago. To quote the nurses at Fred Douglas Lodge, Mom was "feisty". Mom was proud of the fact that she was able to live on her own until the age of 93 years. Her family was her main focus in life. This was very evident with all the family gatherings that were held at the farm at Grosse Isle. We would like to extend our appreciation to the staff at Fred Douglas Lodge (Spruce Unit) for their loving care and kindness towards Mom. Flowers are gratefully declined. Donations may be made in Moms memory to the Canadian National Institute for the Blind, 1080 Portage Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3G 3M3 or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 200-6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6. Cremation has taken place and, as per our moms instructions, no formal service will be held but a celebration of her life will be held on Friday, February 20 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715
