Mom was born in the farming community of Dauphin, MB, Mountview District, in 1921, the youngest of six children. She met Dad in Dauphin and they married in 1942 in Fort William (now Thunder Bay), ON where dad was stationed as a flight instructor for the R.C.A.F. from 1942 to 1945. It was there that Audrey was born. They moved to Winnipeg in 1945 and while Dad pursued university studies towards his career as a Research Scientist (Cereal Breeding) at the Agriculture Canada Research Station, Winnipeg, mom kept busy raising Audrey and was employed at the neighborhood Quick Shop/IGA until the early 60s. Mom was an outgoing, kind and cheerful person with a great sense of humour. She enjoyed visiting with relatives and meeting people. She made many good friends during her lifetime. She and dad enjoyed their involvement with the Air Force Association over the years. She was very involved with the Rosedale United Church Ladies Auxiliary in the early years. She loved knitting, crocheting, crafts, reading and was an exceptional cook who loved to entertain family and friends. She was especially devoted to her grandchildren and enjoyed their company as they were growing up. Mom and Dad travelled extensively over the years but felt their time living in Njoro, Kenya, Africa (1969-71), while dad was under contract with CIDA, was definitely a highlight. In later years mom belonged to the University of Manitoba Womens Club and enjoyed her weekly "bridge club" meetings and ushering at the MTC with friends and neighbours. In recent years she has cherished her great-grandchildren and her visits with them. Moms favourite place to be was at her cottage at Star Lake. Over the years, she spent many happy and contented summers there entertaining family and friends and visiting with her good neighbours. Thank you to her granddaughters Michelle and Sherry for providing Mom with so much love, help, support and encouragement throughout the years, helping her cope with her lengthy illness. We love you Mom and will miss you, knowing in our hearts that you had a life well-lived. The family wishes to express sincere thanks to Dr. L.C. Bartlett for moms care over the years and the doctors and nursing staff at the Grace General Hospital for their excellent care and compassion for Edna during this difficult time. As per moms wishes, cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Thursday, February 19 at 1:00 p.m. at Garry Memorial Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd. In lieu of flowers, if desired, donations, may be made in Ednas memory to The Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, Unit 10 - 120 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3C 4G2 or to a charity of your choice.
