Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryHELEN SAWCHUK (nee KLASSEN) It is with deep sadness the family announces the sudden passing of Helen on February 17, 2004 at the Charleswood Care Centre. Remaining to cherish her memory are her husband of 52 years; Alexander; children, Gary (Karen), Debbie (Mike), and Russell (Donna) along with grandchildren, Trisha, Bill, Corey, Heather, John and Brittany. Also her brother and sisters, Jake and Anne from BC, Mary and Kay from Ontario and Elma from Winnipeg. She was predeceased by her brothers, John, Dick, Henry and sisters, Agnes and Susan. Helen was born in Gretna, MB, one of 11 children. The family later moved to Pansy, MB. In her young adult life, Helen moved to Winnipeg with her sister Susan. She was employed at Sterling Cloak sewing fine hand stitched suits. She then met Jean and they remained good friends. They later became room mates and rented a room with a family whos daughter Edith also became lifelong friends with Helen. In 1950 Helen met Alex and they wed July 14, 1951. They bought a little home in St. Vital. Mom had then quit working to start their family. After the children started school, Helen went back to work part-time at Eatons Catalogue until its closing. It was at Eatons that Helen met and later became good friends with Flo. The family was surrounded by caring and thoughtful neighbours, Ian and Margaret, Fred and Lorraine, John, Gisele and Ron, and Diane. Helen was a kind, caring, compassionate woman who worked hard and was totally devoted to her family. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 20 at 2:00 p.m. in Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. #1 E. at Navin Rd. A public viewing will take place at 1:00 p.m. Interment to follow in Green Acres Memorial Gardens.
