Ken was born in Welland, ON and moved to the family homestead at Sundown, MB and then to Winnipeg as a young boy. Ken married Dorothy Leszczynski on October 19, 1940. Ken served his country overseas during Second World War with the 12th Manitoba Dragoons, Armoured Tank Division. On his return to Canada, Ken worked briefly for Manitoba Hydro before joining the Hudson Bay Company in 1950 and retiring in 1979. Following his retirement he began his own appliance repair business as "Ken the Serviceman" until 1988. In 1992 Ken and Dorothy sold the family home at 780 Cathedral and moved to the Holy Family Seniors Tower. From 2000 to the present Ken was a resident of Holy Family Nursing Home. Ken was a man who enjoyed life to the fullest. His great creativity was shown in everything he did, from his many building projects, his beautiful rock garden at "780" to chronicling the family history on film. Ken was a great story teller who loved to laugh. He had a passion for the water, swimming and sailing. He kept his sailboat, the S.S. Left to cherish Kens memory is his wife of 63 years Dorothy; sister Pauline Jones, daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Joseph LaBine; grandchildren, Brian, Lori and Lisa LaBine; nephews, Brian and Robert Burmachuk and their families. Ken was predeceased by his father and mother, Michael and Sophie Sopiwnyk, his youngest sister Maryann Franklin in 1979, and sister Ann in infancy.
