Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM JOHN CHANDLER "Chilly" It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the family announces the sudden passing of their brother, uncle, nephew, and cousin, William John Chandler, on February 18, 2004, at his residence in the farming community of Gladstone. Bill (Chilly) was born at Gladstone on April 24, 1949, the eldest child and only son of the late Bill and Marie Chandler (nee Fleck). Bills elementary school years were at the Pembroke District School, receiving his high schooling at William Morton Collegiate in Gladstone. He spent the next three or four years working at the Inco Mines in Thompson. Bill returned to the family farm where he continued to farm until his untimely passing. Throughout the years, Bill enjoyed numerous sports including curling, ball, and an occasional game of golf. He enjoyed, and was greatly involved with, the Elks organization, in which he held numerous positions. Bill was also a member of the Gladstone Legion. Bill was well known for his involvement in all community functions, be it selling tickets, helping out with the Elks annual barbecue, skate-a-thons, or wherever else a helping hand was needed. He was always generous with his time to help all friends and neighbours. Bill will be greatly missed by his close relatives and friends. In the words of his true confidant and special Aunt Mary, "Chilly was a true diamond in the rough with a heart of gold." Left to mourn his passing are his four sisters, Kathleen (John) Boulding and their sons Cory and Bryan of Saskatoon; Sandra (Jim) Saunders of Winnipeg and their son Rick of London, England; Helen (Eric) Slatcher of Winnipeg and their daughters Carly and Erin; and June (Ken) Peters of Winnipeg and their son Mitchel and daughter Lauren; as well as many aunts and uncles, and cousins. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 21 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gladstone United Church with Rev. Bob Hunter officiating. Interment will follow in the Gladstone Cemetery. Pallbearers will be John Zado, Ross McBride, Ken Otto, Bruce Hogarth, Larry Pugh, and Jim Snowden. Ushers will be Doug McBride and Allan Hogarth. All in attendance will be considered honorary pallbearers, and members of the B.P.O. Elks will attend as a group. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made to the Gladstone Community Benefit Fund, Box 25, Gladstone, MB R0J 0T0. Clarkes Funeral Home, Gladstone in care of arrangements.
