STEWART DEWAR 1924 - 2004 Peacefully on February 19 at the Selkirk General Hospital, Donald Stanley Stewart Dewar, aged 79, of Cloverdale, beloved husband of Kaye, passed away surrounded by his family. Stewart will be forever in the hearts of his loving wife of 54 years, Kaye (Massey), his children, Karen (Bob) Lorenz, Gary (Heather), Randy (Karen), Greg (Kathleen), Allison, and Laurie (Rick) Sutherland; his brother Brian (Donna) sister-in-law Doreen Massey; brother-in-law Frank (Fern) Massey; and sisters-in-law, Peggy and Dorothy Massey; grandchildren, Andrew, Camryn, Brent, Nicki, Shea, Katie, Kirstin and Kelsey. Stewart was predeceased by his parents, Walter and Jane Dewar; sisters, Betty (Ross) Peel and Nellie (Bob) Sutherland. Stewart was born on the family farm in Meadowdale and spent his entire life in the area except for the time he spent in the RCAF. Upon his return home, Stewart joined the family farming operation. He continued to participate in it throughout his life. Outside of the farm Stewart also worked at a number of jobs including bridge construction, many of which are still in use today. He also worked at the Manitoba Rolling Mills and at Lower Fort Garry as a member of the Corps Commissionaire. Stewart and Kaye were married January 28, 1950 and together they raised six children. Stewart and Kaye had an exceptionally loving relationship which is an inspiration to us all. He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. Stewart was a rugged outdoorsman who liked to hunt and fish. He had a deep appreciation for nature. He loved all animals and they loved him particularly horses, dogs and his cats. He was a fearless horseman and continued to ride until recently. Stewart was an avid curler and was on a team that boasted an 8-ender, a rare accomplishment. He also enjoyed watching sports, especially when his grandchildren were involved. And on any given summer day, Dad could be seen riding his bike up and down the back roads near his home, checking on the fields. He loved old time music and Scottish tunes, but especially Kayes piano playing. Reading was a constant in his life and he had a great thirst for knowledge. He would read everything and anything. Also, Dad loved to play cards and card games were a staple of many family gatherings. He enjoyed driving across the province and there werent many roads that he hadnt travelled. White Lake in Whiteshell Park was a favourite destination. Stewart was a strong man, gentle, patient, kind and honest. He respected others and in turn was respected by all. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to everyone. And in addition, he was a willing teacher. Our family wishes to extend their sincere thanks to Dr. G. Fuchs and the staff of Selkirk General Hospital as well as Stewarts home care workers for their compassionate care. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, February 24 at Selkirk United Church (202 McLean Ave.) at 2:00 p.m. with Judy Limpwright and Steve Wilson officiating. Honorary pallbearers are Doreen Massey, Gerry Johannson, Donald Grieve, Colin Sutherland, Frank Massey, John Clouston, Murray Stewart, Norman Perchaluk, Dunc McDonald, Bill Genovy, Oakley Southern, Don Iwanoczko, Ron Dmyterko and Fred Henry.
