HERBERT ALLAN EDWARDS On February 16, 2004 Allan Edwards of Edmonton, passed away at the age of 89 years. He is survived by sons, Ian (Leona) Edwards of Sherwood Park, AB, Cam (Jean Lowry) Edwards of Georgetown Guyana and Crofton, BC and daughter Liz Vavra of Nanaimo, BC; six grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Allan was predeceased by his mother Sara Jean Edwards (nee Harton) and father Thomas Harold Edwards and wife of 53 years, Janet Campbell Edwards (nee Grant). Allan was born in Preston, ON, November 26, 1914 and raised in London, ON, rural Manitoba and Winnipeg, attending St. Johns College, Winnipeg and the University of Manitoba. In 1930 he joined Canadian National Railways, retiring in 1975 as Assistant Manager, General Claims. He joined The Queens Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada in 1932 and mobilized with them in 1939. Commissioned in 1942 he rejoined the Camerons in Normandy, subsequently wounded. Relocated to Edmonton in 1947 he was active with the Edmonton Highland Games Association, an avid five pin bowler and near excellent pool player. Moving with Janet to Victoria Beach, MB after retirement he resided there until her death in 1992. Since 1993 he has resided at the Mewburn Veterans Centre where he served for 10 years on the residents council. Cremation has taken place and at his request no service will be held.
