RILEY WARREN SCHAU January 6, 1980 - February 18, 2004 It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Riley Schau on February 18, 2004. His parents Connie and Warren, younger brother Cory, grandmother Elsie Chornopyski and his many aunts, uncles and cousins, will forever cherish his memory. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Riley attended Emerson Elementary, John Pritchard Junior High and then graduated from River East Collegiate in 1998. He entered the University of Manitoba, Faculty of Science, but after three semesters he decided to leave school to spend a year in Fernie, BC, working the ski hill in winter and trail maintenance in summer. When he returned to Winnipeg he worked various jobs and obtained his Class 1 drivers license and a Class W power engineer certificate. Riley spent most of this past summer working side by side with Dad, Mom, Cory and Dave building the new family home in St. Clements. At the time of his passing, he was working part-time at Fitness City and Gateway Rec Centre Team sports were a big part of Rileys early life. He played soccer, baseball, lacrosse and hockey out of Gateway Rec Centre and went on to play AA hockey with the River East Marauders and was one of the founding player members of the Northeast Gryphons Junior Lacrosse team. Riley also enjoyed snowboarding, wakeboarding, skateboarding, motorcycle dirt bikes and mountain biking. He was a member of Fitness City Gym and took pride in working out hard to keep in the best shape possible. Aside from athletics, Riley had many different interests throughout his life. He loved to spend time with his Granny and Grandpa at their Sundown Farm and always enjoyed the family camping trips. Riley was a good cook and he made cooking a great meal look so easy even though he never followed a recipe. He was an avid reader of all kinds of novels and scientific books and he was doing considerable research in preparation of writing a book of his own. While his interests were spread over many areas, his real passion was music. Riley truly loved all types of music, from rock to classical, and rap to folk, he listened to it all and appreciated it in a way that was very special. Riley spent most of his free time with his guitar in hand and his dream was to one day work in a recording studio and help others make music that would be unique and different. Riley was a gentle, quiet person who could best be described as "just a really nice guy". He loved being with his dog Buddy who was with him at the end. Riley... On a cold winter night in January 1980, you came into our lives and enriched our souls forever. Words cannot express how much you mean to us and how deeply you will be missed. We will keep your memories and spirit alive. We love you Riley. Until we meet again. Mom, Dad and Cory. A memorial service will be held at Glen Eden Funeral Home, 4477 Main St. at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, February 23. Flowers are gratefully declined, but if you so desire a donation in Rileys name, they can be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society. Riley would have liked that. Arrangements entrusted to: GLEN EDEN FUNERAL HOME 4477 MAIN STREET 338-7111
