ELSIE EDIGER On February 22, 2004 at the Misericordia Health Centre with a brother, a niece and a nephew at her side, Elsie Ediger, aged 91, went to meet her Lord. Elsie was predeceased by her parents, Abram and Anna (Klaassen) Ediger; sister Mary and brother Abram (Abe). Left to mourn are her two brothers, Jack (Mary) and Waldemar (Bill) (Margaret) and their families; numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and their families. Elsie was born on October 17, 1912 in Russia. She emigrated to Canada with her parents in 1926. In Canada at the age of 14 she began working as a domestic in Winnipeg. She continued this work until 1938 when she joined the family on the farm at High Bluff, MB. In 1946 she and her mother moved to Winnipeg. In Winnipeg she found employment with Stall Sportswear and worked in the factory for 31 years until her retirement in 1977. After retirement Elsie began volunteer work for the Red Cross. She was also active in her Church Ladies Group in the First Mennonite Church of Winnipeg. She helped out in the M.C.C. Thrift Store on Sargent Avenue and sewed blankets for the M.C.C. She also visited in nursing homes and hospitals. In 1994 she moved into Autumn House at 790 Wellington Ave. This was a seniors residence and she had many friends there, especially Tena Esau and Herta Funk who were a great support for her. Elsie enjoyed reasonable health during her working years. In her retirement years she developed osteoporosis and scoliosis but she kept active and with a keen interest in things around her. Elsie was very close to her nephews, nieces and their families and was always concerned for their welfare. We wish to express a sincere thank you to niece Lois Neufeld who spent the last three nights at her side and remained with her to the end, and to the staff at Misericordia Health Centre. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, February 25 at First Mennonite Church, 922 Notre Dame Ave., Winnipeg, with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Viewing at the church prior to the service. Flowers are gratefully declined. If friends so desire donations can be made to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Dr., Winnipeg, MB, R3T 5K9 or to a charity of their choice.
