NICOLAS WIENS May 21, 1928 - February 22, 2004 On Sunday, February 22, 2004, peacefully at Concordia Hospital. Nick is lovingly remembered by his wife Anna of 50 years; his mother Elsa Wiens; daughter Ingrid Reuter (Holger) sons, Robert (Maryam), Freddy, Harry (Penny) and numerous grandchildren. He will also be missed by his siblings, Mary Weber (Walter), Helmut Wiens (Marina), Erica Featherstone (Brian), William Wiens (Erna) and many other relatives and friends. Born in Russia and immigrated to Paraguay in 1932, he was married to Anna in 1953. After immigrating to Canada in 1965, they joined Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church where Nick was actively involved for many years. He retired from the Health Sciences Centre in 1992 after 22 years. A dedicated family man, Nick enjoyed fishing and camping with his family, sports in general and had a passion for the challenge of a chess match. Their cottage (Chaco) at Belair Properties - where ailments seemed to dissipate - became a peaceful retreat enjoyed with family and friends. The family would like to thank friends for their prayers and support in this time of need. A special thank you to the staff at Concordia Hospital for their care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Mennonite Central Committee. Funeral service will be held at Sargent Avenue Mennonite Church, 926 Garfield St., on Thursday, February 26 at 10:30 a.m., with interment in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
