Mom was predeceased by her parents, Tekla and Michael; brothers and sisters-in-law, John (Mary), Wasyl (Lena) and Leon; brothers-in-law, William and Fred Tataryn; and her nephew Michael Chekryn. Mom was born on June 26, 1917 in Winnipeg. Her childhood was spent in the North End. Mom learnt to cook and bake at a young age to satisfy the needs of her brothers and later family and friends. Mom always liked to try new recipes for family and much later her bingo partners at Southpark Estates. Minnie and Mike married September 28, 1940. They spent 63 happy years together. They lived on Manitoba Avenue in Winnipeg, and then moved to the farm near Little Mountain Park. They retired to Charleswood in 1976 and in 1997 moved to Southpark Estates. Mom and Dad loved the land. They always had a lovely yard with lush vegetable and flower gardens. They always shared their bounty. Mom and Dad were very proud of their Ukrainian heritage. They were longtime members of the Holy Ghost Church in Brooklands. Mom was proud to wear her 40-year pin of the Ukrainian Womens League. Through lifes ups and downs Mom remained true to her faith. In later years Mom and Dad enjoyed the Roman Catholic Mass just a short walk away. Mom was a great volunteer. She gave her time to 4H, Womens Institute, Church, Charleswood Horticulture, knitting for Heart and Stroke and would bake cookies for any cause. Minnie and Mike loved to travel in their retirement years. Mom and Dad enjoyed their last years at Southpark Estates. They made many new friends and considered every one their extended family. The most important part of Moms life was Mike and their family, Mom looked after Dad the past few years. Mom could never do enough for Susan, Ron, Doug and Kristine. She welcomed Jane, Rob and especially Tyler and Thomas into her life and in turn they supported Mom and Dad, Baba and Gigi. Susan wishes to thank the MRU 3rd floor Victoria Hospital for all their kindness during Moms hospital stay, special thanks to Hilary, Helen, Diane, Ada and Lynn for all their kindness and support. Prayers will be said on Thursday, February 26 at 7:00 p.m. at Mary, Mother of the Church, 85 Kirkbridge Dr. and Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, February 27 at 10:30 a.m. also in the church.
