DOROTHY (DOT) FLORENCE PUTNEY (nee SMITH) After a short illness, Mom peacefully passed away Thursday, February 26, 2004 at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Gimli, at age 92. She was predeceased by her sisters, Marie and Grace; and by her husband Joe in 1979. She is survived by her daughter Eve-Anne (Ken Kristjanson), granddaughter Carolyn (Kevin Love) and great-grandson Benjamin; granddaughter Holly (Todd Lyall) and great-granddaughter Alexa, all of Winnipeg; and her son Morley (Sonia) and granddaughters, Natalie and Jennifer of Calgary. Mom was born November 9, 1911 in Winnipeg to Evelyn and Arnold Smith. She studied piano and violin and later attended the Winnipeg School of Art studying with Lemoine Fitzgerald. She married her high school sweetheart in 1934 and moved to Flin Flon where they resided for 38 years (moving back to Winnipeg in 1972). Her many activities included sewing, knitting, crocheting and bowling. She was a wonderful hostess with a great sense of humour and loved a party. She had a very sharp mind and played bridge well but enjoyed poker more. Mom was secretary to the C.M.H.A in Flin Flon and was devoted member of the Royal Purple for 69 years. She also loved to read and found peace in her books. Mom lived a long, full and interesting life and is now at rest. A special thank you to the nurses and staff of Betel Home in Gimli, where Mom resided for the past three years. At Moms request, cremation has taken place and no formal service will be held. If friends so desire, please make a donation to the charity of your choice in her memory. Gilbart Funeral Home, Gimli in care of arrangements.
