SONIA BAUMEL September 15, 1927 - February 27, 2004 Passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. She is survived by her husband Dave; her children, Sam (Liz) and Lucy (Barry) her grandchildren, Melanie (Dan), Rachel (Dan), Eli, Michael, Jonathan (Keri), Jenny, Alan and Danny; and great-granddaughters, Mara and Alexis. Sonia was a teenager during the Holocaust. After the war she and Dave married and immigrated to Canada settling in Winnipeg in 1947. Sonia was a devoted wife and a loving and caring mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. Her life was centred around her family. She especially loved to dote on her grandchildren and great-granddaughters. One way she would express her love for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren was to knit blankets for them and prepare each ones favourite foods. The beautiful blankets were a way for her symbolically to cover her children and grandchildren to show love and keep them warm. She also had many friends who were very fond of her and enjoyed her great sense of humour. Sonia will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Thanks go to the nursing staff at Seven Oaks Hospital. A special thanks goes to Dr. David Kahanovitch for his great efforts and to Mercedes and Helen who made her life bearable and her exceptional home care workers who helped her in so many ways.
