MARIE SLOBODIAN (nee MARY VIOLA SLOBODA) 1915 - 2004 In the comfort of her familiar room at Golden Links Lodge, with her faithful companion BoBo by her side, Marie passed away on February 26, 2004. She is survived by children, Victoria, June, Peter, Kathy (Gary). She will also be missed by grandchildren, Lisa (Mike), Michelle (Curt), Joe, Chad, Danika, Mikhail; and great-grandchildren, Curtis, Dane, Jack and Ella She was predeceased by husband Peter in 1991. She was the last surviving child of Mike and Ann Sloboda, and was predeceased by siblings, Pete, Harry, Fred, Ann, Pauline and John. She was born and raised in Oak Brae, MB. She lived in Winnipeg briefly then moved to Red Lake, ON to marry Pete and begin raising her family. After 10 years, they moved to Winnipeg, lived on Beverley Street and later moved to her "motel" on Clifton Bay. She loved her supervisory position in the dietary department of Grace Hospital, and was proud of the watch she received for her long service. Her interests were bingo, her daughters, painting, sewing, baking, travelling, singing, growing violets and making dobre chicken noodle soup. She was a regular church attendee and a member of St. Josaphats Womens League. Her proudest accomplishment was celebrating her Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1991 where she and Pop renewed their vows. She then moved to Arms of the Cross for 10 years, where she met her special friend, Ann. Prayers will be said on Sunday, February 29 at 7:00 p.m. at St. Josaphat Ukrainian Catholic Church, 590 Alverstone St. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Monday, March 1 at 10:00 a.m. also at the church with Rev. Nestor Yakiwchuk. Interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens. Flowers are gratefully declined.
