CATHERINE (KAY) FONTAINE (nee BEGLEY) Passed away peacefully on January 25, 2004 with her family by her side. Catherine was born in 1906 in Chicago, IL, grew up in Manitoba and at the time of her passing resided with her daughter, Janice, in Vancouver. She is survived and much loved by her daughter Janice; grandson Tim Rath; granddaughter Lesley Fall; their spouses, Karen and Bernie; and great-grandchildren, Alicia and Christopher Fall. She was predeceased by her husband Henry in 1965; her daughter Carole Rath in 1979; and by four brothers, George, Walter, Robert and Bill Begley; and her sister Mildred Heelis. When her beloved daughter Carole died in 1979, she became mother as well as grandmother to Timothy and Lesley. In 1980, she moved to Vancouver with her daughter, Janice, and with her grandchildren, and became the matriarch of a loving family unit. Catherine was an active, vital participant in the lives of her grandchildren and their friends. She was much loved by young people. She enjoyed their music, followed their sports and was invited to their outings. Her face never stopped smiling and her wonderful laugh was enchanting. Catherine touched many lives. She had elegance and grace, and her warmth, love and laughter will be remembered always. A memorial service was held on February 2 followed by a reception and tribute to her life.
