Date of Passing: Feb 27, 2004
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryBERTHA FLYE (nee BROOKS) Peacefully, on Friday, February 27, 2004, with her soul mate, Glenn, by her side, Bertha May Flye, born March 26, 1943, passed away. Left to cherish Berthas memory are Glenn, her loving husband of 37 years; her two daughters and their families, Alayne and Mel Nott and beloved granddaughter, Lisa Gordon (whose art she loved so much), and Tiffany Flye and Patrick Shields; her mother, Violet Brooks; brothers, Dick Brooks and wife France of Vancouver, and Bob Brooks of Winnipeg; brother and sisters-in-law, Judy and Tosh Hayashi of Halifax, and many other extended family, and many very dear friends and her grandpets Holly, Hanna, Jake, Dakota, and Raymond. Bert was predeceased by her father, Harry Brooks and her father and mother-in-law, Eddy and Peggy Flye. In the weeks leading to her passing, Bertha expressed many times how blessed she was to have such a loving family and great friends. Co-workers at Manitoba Health (Provincial Drug Programs) brought much happiness to Bert with their many visits, fond memories, and cherished keepsakes. Berthas family took great joy in hearing her laugh and seeing her smile, and they are extremely grateful to everyone that took time to visit. Special thanks to the whole gang at Manitoba Health, who Bert described as her "other family". Affectionately known as "the pig lady" for her vast collection of anything "piggy", Bertha cared for all of her friends so very much. Throughout her life, Bertha went out of her way to exhibit kindness to all living things. She had a special bond with animals, and displayed unconditional love and compassion for anyone challenged or in need. She was blessed with the ability to see only the good in people and she is truly an inspiration to us all. The family wishes to thank the wonderful health care providers who extended kind, gentle, and caring hands and made her last experiences as comfortable and as dignified as possible; the Health Science Centres Dr. D. Fewer and great staff of ward A5, clinical assistant Jon, nurses of H4, our family physician, Dr. Chuck Schellenberg, and the many relatives and friends who were constantly present through her illness to lift her spirits and bring joyful experiences in her time of need. In keeping with Berthas wishes, cremation has taken place and a funeral service will not be held. In lieu of flowers or memorial donation to a specific charity, please just watch for a person or animal needing a helping hand, think of Bertha and offer your assistance. Every time you do, Berthas life will continue to have meaning. Bertha taught us how life should be lived and how to deal with dying with dignity, grace, and continued concern for others. We are all grateful for her teachings. Bertha - always loved - always together
