FERNE BARTON CLARKE (nee GRIEVE) With great sadness, the family announces Fernes death on Wednesday, March 3, 2004. Dearly loved wife of Ralph for 64 years, she is also survived and will be sorely missed by her children, Elizabeth, Bruce and wife Diana and her beloved grandchildren, Melanie and Megan Clarke, Mark and Miles Gould. Predeceased by her parents, Robert and Mae Grieve and her three brothers, Henry, Robert and Jack. Ferne had a special place in her heart for her nieces and nephews and her sister-in-law Florence Grieve, all of B.C. Born in Gerald, SK, Ferne came to Brandon as a young woman where she worked at the Metropolitan Store. She and Ralph were married in 1939 and made their home in Minnedosa until 1956 when the family re-located to Brandon. Ferne loved life! Her independent spirit and good humour endeared her to family and friends alike. She was a woman of faith and her years of service to the Anglican Church at St. Marks in Minnedosa and the Mardi Club of St. Matthews in Brandon brought her great joy and fulfillment. Ferne was also active as a volunteer with the Girl Guides, the Eastern Star, the Brandon Housing Authority, Meals on Wheels and along with Ralph was an Honourary Life Member of the Progressive Conservative Party of Manitoba. Fernes most favourite place in the world was Clear Lake where she spent hours exploring the wonders of golf and delighting in her golfing friendships. One of her proudest achievements was her Honourary Life Membership in the Wasagaming Ladies Golf Club. When it was too cold to golf, Ferne took to curling, enjoying the camaraderie of the same team for some 21 years! And she adored a good game of Bridge. The family wishes to thank the staff on the fourth floor at the Brandon Regional Health Centre for their outstanding care and respect. The funeral will take place on Saturday, March 6 at 1:30 p.m. at St. Matthews Anglican Cathedral, 403-13th Street, Brandon. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to St. Matthews Anglican Cathedral "in memory of Ferne Clarke" or to a charity of your choice. ...if you listen with your heart, youll hear all my love around you soft and clear.
