Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryFRANCES HAWRYSH (nee TOLPA) Peacefully on March 2, 2004 at the Red River Place in Selkirk, Frances Hawrysh, aged 92 years, formerly of Winnipeg Beach, MB. Frances was born in Poland on December 3, 1911 and at the tender age of 16 and a pioneering spirit, she immigrated to Canada by herself. She met Michael Hawrysh and after a time took on the challenge of marrying this young man and raising his two daughters, Mary and Jean, on October 24, 1931. They started farming in Melnice and added to their family, son Edward, daughter Margaret (who passed away in infancy) and daughter, Diana. They farmed for 42 years. She also worked at numerous places as a cook including Eddies Cafe, Dorothys Cafe, Winnipeg Beach Hotel and the Red River Place Nursing Home. She moved to the Winnipeg Beach Seniors Home soon after the passing of her husband, Mike, in 1973. Here she became notorious for her card and bingo playing and having an open door for everyone. She was well known for her delicious paska, cabbage rolls, perogies, perishky and noodle making. She was especially known for her intricate crocheting, some of which, has gone to various countries around the world. She resided at Red River Place since 1990 where for a lot of years she served as President of the Tenants Association. The family would like to give special thanks to all the staff there who treated her with such care and kindness over the years. Frances was predeceased by her parents, Jacob and Nellie; her husband Mike in 1973; daughter Margaret in 1944; daughter Jean in 1997; grandson Reginald in 1954; son-in-law Al in 1998; and numerous brothers and sisters. She leaves surviving a son Ed (Eleanor) daughters, Diana Martin (Wayne) and Mary Aniel; son-in-law Cass Lewinski; special relatives, Margaret Hawrysh and Alice Ellison; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren, including special great-grandson, John Wayne Martin and great-great-granddaughter Natashia Rochon. Funeral service will be held on Monday, March 8 at 2:00 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, Selkirk with Rev. Lynn Stevens officiating. Interment in the St. Williams Cemetery. A lunch will follow the burial at the Winnipeg Beach Legion. Her pallbearers will be Mike and Barry Hawrysh, Roy Martin, Keith Duff, Kelvin Ramsey and Blair Ellison. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of choice. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
