Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJACOB MAYER ISA Peacefully at his residence on February 24, 2004 Jacob Mayer Isa passed away. Jay was born at Dauphin, MB, October 12, 1905. As an infant he accompanied his family from Pine River, MB to Winnipeg, then returned to Dauphin in 1915 where he completed his primary and secondary education. He then enrolled at the Manitoba Agricultural College and graduated with a B.S.A. degree in 1930, following which he joined the Department of Bacteriology and Animal Pathology as a technologist. In the next few years he acquired a M. Sc degree at the University of Manitoba. He pursued his studies at Ontario Veterinary College at Guelph, ON, from which he graduated in 1938. He returned to Winnipeg and joined the Provincial Veterinary Laboratory as Assistant Animal Pathologist. In 1955 he succeeded the late Dr. Alfred Savage as Provincial Animal Pathologist and Director of the Laboratory. He held this position until the time of his retirement in 1970. During his career he published extensively in the scientific literature, both alone and in collaboration with others. He was a member of the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association and eventually was made an honorary life member of both associations. He was also a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association for several years. On retirement he became a private consultant to the Manitoba Department of Public Works, aiding in designing, furnishing and equipping the new Provincial Veterinary Laboratory in the Provincial Agricultural Services Complex on the University Campus. In 1975 Jay was appointed Registrar of the Veterinary Medical Board of Manitoba and the Manitoba Veterinary Medical Association, a position he held until April, 1984 when he retired. Jay was a life member of Vermillion Lodge 68, A.F. & A.M. at Dauphin, a member and life member of the Winnipeg Scientific Club and a member of the Alumni Association of the University of Manitoba. He was predeceased by his beloved wife Anne Manners Isa. Deep appreciation is extended to all the friends and family, home care workers and members of the Winnipeg Regional Health Authority, and to Jean Hodges, a very special person to Jay. At Jays request cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service. If friends so desire donations in his memory may be made to the CNIB, Winnipeg.
