Offer Condolences or MemoryGRIETJE (GRETA) BERRELKAMP (nee GRASHUIS) Grietje Berrelkamp passed away peacefully on March 5, 2004 at Concordia Hospital with her family by her side. Grietje was predeceased by her husband John, her parents, two sisters and three brothers. She is lovingly survived by her children and their families, Lena (Richard) Vanderhooft and their children, Don (Kim), Yvonne (Gord) Ginter, Jeff (Tammy) and Darlene (Rick) Ness; Peter (Stephanie) and their children, Francine (Howard) Monteith, Deborah (Scott) Santoro, Michelle (Mike) Leney; Jenny (Wayne) Kaminsky and their children, Roxanne (Nathan) Hawkins, Kenneth (Maria) and Jonathan; her great-grandchildren, Donovan, Joshua, Daniel and Aryssa Vanderhooft, Colin and Kayla Ginter, Justin, David, Michael and Hannah Vanderhooft, Jaedyn and Tamiya Ness, Rachel and Aiden Monteith, Nicolas and Noah Kaminsky and Dane Hawkins. She is also survived by two brothers, Willem and Jan in the Netherlands. Grietje was born on December 9, 1915 in Zandt, Groningen, Nederland. She came to Canada with her husband and two small children in April of 1949. She spent her first years in Manitoba. In 1950, during the great flood, their third child was born. In the years that followed they made their home in Barwick, ON, where she became a "farmers wife". Her great gift of hospitality and her cooking skills made their home a favourite stopping place for many. Upon leaving the farm, they moved to Winnipeg to be closer to their family. Her love of people, combined with her many gifts, again made their home a favourite place to stop by. Although her life was challenged by many illnesses, her faith sustained her. She was a mentor to many. Viewing will take place on Tuesday, March 9 between 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. at Green Acres Funeral Chapel, Hwy. #1 E. and Navin Road. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, March 10 at 2:00 p.m. at Transcona Christian Reformed Church, 131 Victoria Ave. W. Pastor Richard Zekveld and Pastor David Cornish will officiate.
