Valerie will also be missed by fellow horse owners, trainers, jockeys and support staff of Assiniboia Downs Racetrack. Also, the many friends who like Valerie loved the sport of thoroughbred horse racing including special friends Grace and Don Gulewich of Stonewall. Valerie was employed at the Northern Shoe Company, Royal Canadian Legion and after furthering her education at night school, as a nurse at the Winnipeg Civic Hospital Complex. She worked there until her retirement. Sometime prior to her retirement she developed her enthusiasm and love of thoroughbred racing at Assiniboia Downs. Firstly as a spectator and loyal fan of the sport. Later, after a period of many years as an owner and trainer. This became possible due to the uncompromising support and aid of husband Eric. Valerie and Eric enjoyed many win, place and shows as a variety of "kissed" jockeys can attest to; however, in 2002 due to health reasons they retired from the sport they both loved and enjoyed. Valerie will be greatly missed by her loving husband Eric, family and friends. The cherished memories and love will live in all our hearts forever. In keeping with Valeries wishes, cremation has taken place and no formal funeral services will be held. In lieu of flowers, donations on Valeries behalf may be made to the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent Rd. WOJCIKS FUNERAL CHAPEL & CREMATORIUM 897-4665
