Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryOLGA "OLLIE" SKEHAR Peacefully on March 4, 2004, Olga "Ollie" passed away at the age of 78 years at the Seven Oaks Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Eugene in October 18, 2003; and her parents, the Very Rev. John in 1954 and Dobr. Anna Dmytriw in 1991. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory, her daughter Melanie and brother-in-law Boris (Olga) and family. Olga was born in Czercze, Poland on December 17, 1925 and immigrated to Canada with her mother Anna in 1937 to join her father who was then residing in Winnipeg and who shortly thereafter was assigned to St. Michaels Ukrainian Orthodox Church as the Parish Priest. In those early years, St. Michaels Church was the hub of Ukrainian Orthodox activities and Olga assisted her parents in greeting the many clergy and church dignitaries who visited the parish at 110 Disraeli St. With the assistance of interested and dedicated parishioners, a choir was assembled and Olga became the choir director, a task she enjoyed performing for many years. She married Eugene Skehar in 1961, and soon after the birth of daughter Melanie, they became members of the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity. Olgas teaching career began in Vita, MB in 1947 where she taught grades 1 and 2. In 1948 she gained employment with the Winnipeg School Division No. 1 teaching at Norquay, River Elm, Sargent Park, Weston and Lord Nelson Schools. Due to ailing health she went on disability leave in 1987, officially retiring in 1991. Olga was a member of CYMK, the treasurer of the Ladies Auxiliary of St. Andrews College for a short time in the early 1960s, a member of the Ukrainian Womens Association Canada, Lesia Ukrainian Branch, a member of the Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral of the Holy Trinity and a member of the retired teachers association of Manitoba. Prayers will be said on Monday, March 8 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 9, at 10:00 a.m., also at the chapel with interment to follow in Glen Eden Memorial Gardens.
