JAMES (JIM) ELLIOTT ANDERSON Peacefully on Friday, March 5, 2004 Jim passed away at the Poseidon Care Centre. Predeceased by his loving wife, Audrey, in February 1989, Jim is survived by his three children, Frank (Lyn) of Vernon, BC, Jean (Kent Dudley) and Bruce (Lia) both residing in Winnipeg. Grandchildren, Christopher, Sarah, Kate, Kristi (Todd Leathwood), Jeff (fiancee Rie), Emily, Benjamin, Juliana and great-granddaughter Kylee Leathwood. The youngest son of the late Lillian and Richard Anderson, James (Jim) Elliott Anderson was born March 2, 1921. He was raised in Winnipeg, along with his two brothers, both now deceased, J.W. (Jack) and R.T. (Dick) Anderson. In August 1941 at the age of 20, Jim enlisted in the Royal Canadian Air Force, 425 Squadron, as a Leading Aircraftman serving proudly both in Canada and overseas. He received an honourable discharge in September 1945. Growing up in the Alloway - Faucet Street area, Jim met the love of his life, Audrey Dixon. They married August 28, 1948 at the beautiful Westminster United Church. Jim worked for many years as the office manager for Eastman Kodak, later becoming Treck Photographic, to the time of his retirement. As a young man with a growing family, Jim and Audrey moved from their modest apartment in downtown Winnipeg to Norwood Flats. The sound of the bat striking the ball can still be heard as Jim and his neighbours, along with their kids, played "kick the can" in the back lane between Larchwood and Hemlock Place. Jim was born left handed, yet through school was encouraged to write with his right hand. So playing ball, he caught and then threw the ball with his left hand... what a sight to see that was! Jim was an active member of the Norwood United Church and the Norwood Community. Audrey and Jim could be seen supporting their kids through their various activities being baseball, swimming and hockey. Jim loved to play cards, especially cribbage. He also enjoyed taking "Sunday" drives out north Main Street to Lockport, stopping to buy an ice cream treat for all, returning home via Henderson Highway. Jim and Audrey enjoyed holidaying, especially in the Alymer, ON area where his loving sister-in-law, Muriel Pirie, and members of her family currently reside. Jim was a meticulous record keeper, ensuring to remember others on their "special days". Thanks to the management and staff at the Poseidon Care Centre, where Jim had been a resident this past year. Flowers are gratefully declined where if friends so desire, donations may be made to the Poseidon Care Centre, "End of Life" program, 70 Poseidon Bay, Winnipeg, MB R3M 3E5 (Attention: Liz Campbell, Program Manager, Ph. 452-6204). Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Thomson Funeral Chapels. Immediate cremation was carried out at Jims request with a private family graveside service following. There will be a memorial service hosted at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 10 at Jims former residence of McClure Place, 510 Greenwood Pl., Winnipeg, MB (Ph. 774-5017). Rev. Wendy Rankin officiating.
