Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNORMAN RUSSELL EMERSON November 26, 1926 - March 8, 2004 Norman Russell Emerson of Winnipeg passed away peacefully on Monday, March 8, 2004 at St. Boniface Hospital following a brief illness at the age of 77. Norman is survived by his wife Shirley (nee Strachan), whom he married in 1951; his sons, Wesley of Winnipeg, Russell (Kim) his grandchildren, Jordan, Sean and Nicole; and stepgrandchildren, Ashley and Riley Bech, all of Calgary. He was predeceased by his parents, Russell and Nan Emerson; his sister Helen; and brother-in-law Hugh Strachan. Norman was born in Winnipeg on November 26, 1926, was educated at Robert H. Smith and Kelvin High Schools and the University of Manitoba (Delta Kappa Epsilon). Shirley, Norman and their young family moved to Brandon when Norman bought and managed a Goodyear Tire dealership and later Emerson Motors, a Jeep and American Motors dealership. While living in Brandon, Norman was a founding member of the Brandon Gun Club, as well a founding member and one-term commodore of the Pelican Lake Yacht Club. Norman also served as president of the Brandon Game and Fish Association. A consummate outdoorsman, Norman loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, power boating and sailing. After selling the businesses, they returned to Winnipeg in 1972 where Norman was appointed manager of the St. Vital Branch of Eaton/Bay Financial Services. In 1982, they moved to Saskatoon, where Norman served as branch manager for the company until his retirement in 1987. Returning to Winnipeg, Norman and Shirley completed their journey of living in the three jewel Cities of the Prairies they loved so much. In retirement, Norman enjoyed his cottage at Whytewold, entertaining his grandchildren, puttering around the cottage and driving Shirley to garage sales in his bright orange "baby" Fiat. Hunting with his friends and son Wesley at his Bent Barrel Lodge at the Delta Marsh was his great joy every autumn. Norman supported Ducks Unlimited, The Delta Waterfowl Foundation and was a member of the Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs. Norman celebrated his faith at All Saints Anglican Church in Whytewold. A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 12 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., officiated by Rev. Ken Pawluk of Whytewold All Saints Anglican Church. A reception will follow. If friends so desire, donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church, Whytewold, Box 309, Matlock, MB R0C 2B0 or the Delta Waterfowl Foundation, RR #1, Box 1, Portage la Prairie, MB R1N 3A1. A sincere "thank you" to the staff at the St. Boniface Hospital, Unit 5E, for all the loving care given to Norman.
