Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryJOHANN GESTUR MIDFORD September 17, 1924- March 7, 2004 On the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Mazatlan, Mexico, Johann Gestur Midford, aged 79 years of Selkirk, MB. Beloved husband and best friend to Gladys Midford for 58 years and loving father to Chris (Judy), John (Sandy) and Loa (Russ) grandfather to six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; uncle to numerous nieces and nephews and grand-nieces and nephews; and brother to Marino (Lil). Gestur was predeceased by his daughter Karen; his mother and father, Christopher and Anna (Loa) and three brothers, Christopher S., Carl F., and Richard T. Midford. Gestur was born in Selkirk, MB and lived most of his life in this area with the exception of 28 years in Northern Manitoba, primarily Gillam. As a young man he was employed by Fairfield Industries and subsequently joined the Royal Canadian Navy, serving from 1942-1946. During the course of his lifetime he was employed by the Manitoba Rolling Mills, BACM and Manitoba Hydro for whom he worked for 26 and one half years. He has been a member of the Royal Canadian Legion for over 55 years and was a founding member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 245 in Gillam, MB. Having many talents and interests, Gestur spent numerous hours in his woodworking shop making a multitude of creations, he was an accomplished stained glass craftsman, a certified locksmith, as well as a beekeeper. Travel became an additional passion for Gestur with the calling always to be near the water. Numerous springs and summers were passed on the shores of Woods Lake in Winfield, BC and many a winter on the shores of the Pacific Ocean in Mazatlan, Mexico. We will miss his quick wit, his ever present smile, his zest for life and take comfort in the most precious and special memories he leaves behind for all of us. Our love is where you are....... Via con dios Dad. Please join us in remembrance on Friday, March 19 at 3:30 p.m. in the Gilbart Funeral Chapel, 309 Eveline St. Selkirk, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch No. 42. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
