JOHN DOWIE The family of John Dowie sadly announces his sudden passing on February 26, 2004 at the Grace General Hospital. John was born in Winnipeg, MB on September 11, 1927. He was predeceased by his parents, Fred and Mary; brother Steve (Dowhey) sister Doris (Myhara) and nephew Ron (Dowhey). John will be remembered and missed by sister-in-law Louise (Dowhey) nieces, Joanne (Tom) Kolba, Linda (Ed) Bjorklund, Patricia (Michael) Goodman; nephews, Bob (Myhara) and Brenda and Allan (Myhara) as well as great-nieces, nephew and cousins. John spent his childhood in the Vermillion Bay area of Ontario where he developed his love of fishing and the peacefulness of nature. He and his family moved to Manitoba in the early 1940s settling in Charleswood where he lived until he left for British Columbia in 1965. John was a skilled and meticulous carpenter who worked in the construction industry both in Manitoba and the 30 years he spent in British Columbia. In his younger days, John was an avid curler and enjoyed golfing. He was a member of the Charleswood Curling Club for many years, winning numerous trophies and awards. In 1994, John moved back to Winnipeg, residing once again in Charleswood. Although John was a quiet, private man, he was very sharp and quick, quite witty in his observations of life and always called "a spade a spade". We will miss his sense of humour. John loved to read, particularly westerns ("not the ones with that romance stuff", he would say) and his newspaper that he read from cover to cover every day. If there was sports on television thats where youd find John, especially if it was hockey or his beloved Blue Jays playing. Always very independent, even the loss of his leg three years ago did not change that. He got himself a motorized wheelchair and after many challenges in mastering manoeuvres, he kept on going. John never asked for much, accepted what life gave him and seldom complained. Thanks for allowing us to "know you" John. You will be missed and remembered. A short service and interment will be held on Friday, March 12 at 12:30 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. with Captain Faye Shail presiding. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715 Friends and family are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
