Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryNINA PAULINE HOPPER (nee EVANS) March 13, 1925 - March 8, 2004 It is with great sorrow that we announce the peaceful passing of our cherished mother and grandmother with family by her side. Mom was predeceased by her husband of 30 years, David William; their beloved daughter Barbara; her parents, Gladys and Melville; her sister Jane and her brothers Arthur and Ted. She will be remembered with much love by her son David (Elaine, Alex, Neal and Katie) by her daughter Patty Hobson (Bruce, grandchildren Steven and Jennifer) sisters, Frances, Rhoda, Sally and families; as well as other family and friends. Nina was a very positive person who always looked on the bright side of things. She respected the dignity of each person she met and always encouraged people to do their best. She faced lifes adversities with grace and good humour. Mom tried to be fair, honest and non-judgmental. With empathy and intuitive understanding she offered others kindness and compassion. She was a good friend. Nina dedicated her life to caring for those she loved, to teaching values by example and to improving the lives of others. We, her children, were blessed with unconditional love. Nina got involved in the PTA at her childrens school, later the Band Parents Association, was instrumental in the creation of a neighbourhood park, worked for the NDP party, and belonged to Toastmistress Club and Daughters of the Nile, SPHINX No. 116. Mom had a wonderful memory, was the family historian, and told stories to her grandchildren laced with humour, drama and cookies. Nina had the eye of an artist and the heart of a poet. She never lost her childs sense of wonder at the beauty of the natural world. She was a natural teacher and loved to involve others, especially her children and grandchildren, in observing the wonders of Gods creations, particularly astronomy, the weather, the birds of the air and the flowers of the fields. In later years, Mom took great pleasure and pride in her grandchildren, and enjoyed the time spent with them immensely. True to her nature, she created beauty for others, a colourful garden of flowers, or a handmade blanket, personalized for each new child in the family. SHE WALKS IN BEAUTY She walks in beauty, like the night Of cloudless climes and starry skies; And all thats best of dark and bright Meet in her aspect and her eyes: Thus mellowd to that tender light Which heaven to gaudy day denies. One shade the more, one ray the less, Had half impaird the nameless grace Which waves in every auburn tress, Or softly lightens oer her face; Where thoughts serenely sweet express How pure, how dear their dwelling place. And on that cheek, and oer that brow, So soft, so calm, yet eloquent, The smiles that win, the tints that glow, But tell of days in goodness spent, A mind at peace with all below, A heart whose love is innocent. (From: Lord Byron) The family would like to thank all those who supported our mother throughout her later years. Special thanks to the ladies at the St. Vital Library, the Rosewood Village staff and the residents of Juniper House for making the last year of Moms life pleasant and comfortable, and the staff of the Victoria General Hospital for their compassion and care. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Butterfly Conservatory, Friends of the Assiniboine Park Conservatory, 15 Conservatory Dr., Winnipeg, MB R3P 2N5. Funeral will be held on Saturday, March 13 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Arrangements entrusted to: CHAPEL LAWN FUNERAL HOME CEMETERY AND CREMATORIUM 885-9715 Family and friends are invited to sign the Book of Condolence at www.chapellawn.mb.ca
