Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryERNEST CHARLES GILBARD FOWELL (BUD) Ernest Charles Gilbard Fowell (Bud) passed away peacefully at the Souris Personal Care Home, Friday, March 5, 2004 at the age of 74. Bud was born on the farm at NE 9-7-19 in the Rural Municipality of Oakland on February 11, 1930. He attended school at Carroll. Bud married Margaret McMunn on January 3, 1953 and from this union five children were born and raised on the same farm as Bud was born. In 1966 the family moved to the present location, NE 4-7-19 where he farmed until moving into the Souris Personal Care Home. Bud was always very active in the community and a great neighbour, always ready to help anyone that needed it. His active community involvement included singing in the Carroll United Church Choir for several years, belonging to the Foresters for over 50 years and serving on the Carroll Hall Committee, Carroll Rink Committee and Carroll Cemetery Board. He was a good steward of the land, taking pride in clean fields, growing registered seed plots and other registered grains. Bud loved plants and flowers, with a special interest in growing gladioli. He successfully bred a new variety called the "Carroll Centennial" in 1980. Bud was looking forward to his birthplace becoming a Century Farm this year, 2004. Bud was predeceased by his parents, Charlie and Clara Fowell; his first grandchild Paul Inkster, in infancy; nephew Wayne Culbertson; and brothers-in-law, Joe Culbertson, Allan Barrett, George Smith, and Stan Rollins. He leaves to mourn his wife Margaret; his five children, Linda Freed, Brandon, MB, Brian (Paulette) Fowell, Brandon, Jeanne (Brian) Stephenson, Winnipeg, Ken (Linda) Fowell, Rocanville, SK, Barry (Colleen) Fowell, Carroll, MB; 12 grandchildren, Larry (Lisa) Inkster, Barb (Ken) Mclvor, Paul and Scott Fowell, Kelci, Kyrstin and Brayden Stephenson, Jolene and Amanda Fowell, Alison, Nathan and Jared Fowell; four great-grandchildren, Triston Inkster, Matthew, Griffin and Kenneth Mclvor; one brother Ernie (Therese) Fowell, Devon, AB; and five sisters, Ivy Barrett, Comox, BC, Amy Rollins, Dryden, ON, Alice (Tim) Melnyk, Brandon, Elna Smith, Richmond, BC; May (Tony) Culbertson-Vaz, Brandon; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends. A private funeral service was held Wednesday, March 10 at Kowalchuks Funeral Home, Souris, MB with Rev. John Oldenkamp officiating. Interment followed at Carroll Cemetery. Friends who wish to make a donation in memory of Bud may do so to Souris Personal Care Home, Heart and Stroke Foundation, or a charity of their choice.
