EUGENIA EVELYN HALL (nee KELEKIS) On March 10, 2004, in the presence of her loving family, Evelyn passed away. Evelyn was predeceased by her darling husband of 49 years, Joe. She is survived by her daughters, Melanie and Barbara Jo; granddaughter Stephanie; sisters, Chryse, Mary and Becky; nephews, Jim (Barbra) and Chrys (Kaye) grandnephews and nieces, Geoffrey, Todd, Christopher, Alexandra, Jonathan, and Elizabeth as well as numerous cousins. Evelyn was born on September 24, 1919 in Winnipeg. She attended John M. King, General Wolfe and Daniel McIntyre schools. Kelekis Restaurant was an integral part of Evelyns life. At age 14, she worked alongside her father, Chris, on the chip wagon. In 1946, the family established their restaurant at Main and Aberdeen. While working at the restaurant, Evelyn met the love of her life, Joe. They married during the great flood of 1950. Daughter Melanie was born in 1951 and Barbara Jo soon followed in 1953. Evelyns first priority was her family. She provided a warm and loving home for her husband and daughters and joyously welcomed visits from her nephews and her grandnephews. The family has many fond memories of hot apple pie, traditional family dinners and treasured toy store visits. Evelyn was an avid supporter of family activities. School concerts, basketball games and dance recitals were amongst her favourites. In 1983, Evelyn was thrilled to welcome her granddaughter Stephanie Elaine into her life. Grandma loved babysitting her "Pumpkin" from a wee babe until junior high school. Evelyn spent many happy hours with her puppies, tending her garden and challenging crossword puzzles at the kitchen table with Joe. She spent her last years as a resident of Misericordia Place. The family would like to thank the staff of Robin Way as well as HSC-GD5 for their many kindnesses. Prayers will be said Monday, March 15 at 7:00 p.m. at Cropo Funeral Chapel, 1442 Main St. Funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 16 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 2255 Grant Ave. at Shaftesbury Boulevard with interment to follow at Brookside Cemetery. Flowers are gratefully declined. If desired, donations may be made in Evelyns memory to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba, 10-120 Donald St., R3C 9Z9 or the Winnipeg Humane Society, 5 Kent St., R2L 9Z9.
